Mark Twain & Habits

Appropriate quote for the start of the New Year 2011, from Mark Twain ( 1835 – 1910 )

Habits aren’t flung out the window. They’re coaxed down the stairs one step at a time.

  1. My favorite Twain quote is “It takes about two weeks to come up with a good extemporaneous comment.” It would even be a better Twain quote if Twain actually came up with it. While Twain did talk about how writing a short speech takes longer than writing a long speech (“If you want a two hour speech, well then I’m ready right now”, or something like that), this quote isn’t to be found anywhere. At least half of the Steven Wright jokes i’ve heard really aren’t his, though i believe all the ones on youtube where Steven Wright actually says them are. Yogi Bera complained, “I never said most of the things I said.”
