I recently looked up this list. I have seen similar lists for decades, so IMHO I think the information in this list is of decent enough quality.
Top 10 causes of premature death for Americans:
- Cardiovascular disease 28.5%
- Cancer 22.8%
- Cerebrovascular Diseases (strokes) 6.7%
- Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases 5.1%
- Accidents 4.4%
- Motor Vehicle Traffic Accidents (41% of all accidents)
- Poisoning (16% of all accidents)
- Falls (15% of all accidents)
In other words, American’s love of meat, milk, cars and cigarettes are killing them. Probably the planet too.
Risks can be reduced not eliminated, for numbers 1,2,3,6 & 9 with low sodium, low processed, high bulk, low fat, whole foods vegan diets.
In other words, just dropping meat to live off mostly faux meats ( processed flour ), pasta ( more processed flour), bagels ( more processed flour ), and lettuce salads is not enough.
I have seen write-ups of studies over the years that have shown that people, even health buffs, will consistently overestimate the quality of their food choices and underestimate their caloric intakes.
In other words, don’t be smug. You probably aren’t eating as well as you think you are.
Even if you are a food diary keeping vegan, you can still get cancer and/or heart disease from factors beyond your control. I know people with impeccable health habits who are suffering from this situation.
