This is a very amusing essay….
It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.

I found the article amusing because I felt like that kid did when I got my first mp3 player. I enjoyed the turnabout.
I remember when these devices shrunk down to a size that was slightly larger than the cassette tape itself. That’s kind of impressive when you realize that they had to cram both the electronic and mechanical components into such a tiny space.
Ah the 80s… It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
Well, perhaps more of the latter.
